     Announcements! So many announcements! Five announcements! Four exclamation points!
     First: To help us keep our rapid expansion under control, we are still accepting applicants for another assistant editor or two. We shall be introducing you to the new assistant editors soonish. Details here.
     Second: As of our next issue (October), we’re going to start having the fiction of every issue available as an audio and/or text download in addition to being online. It’ll be a feed you can subscribe to, and it’ll be hosted by Ourmedia.org. The download will be called Octopodophrenia, or 8pod. It will be linked to from the index page. Assistant Editor James Maddox believes this will Solve All of Our Problems.*

     Third: The final date to submit to Susurrus Press’s first e-anthology, I Am This Meat, is August 31st, 2007. That’s less than a month. It should be available (for free) around Halloween.

     Fourth: We are venturing into the wonderful world of print in 2008 with two themed anthologies. Right now, just basic info is available on the Susurrus Press main page, but they are tentatively going to be called

     Fifth: We are kicking off our first-ever-but-possibly-to-be-annual fundraiser to pay our authors more. We are raising our pay rates soon from a flat $5.00 to at least $10.00, but we’d love for it to be more. We’re going to start with $10.00 per contributor that we’re going to pay, then take all the proceeds from the fund drive, divide it by the number of people we plan to publish, and add that to the $10 rate. We pay for this out of our own pockets for the love of it, and it’s a goal to pay professional rates eventually. This fundraiser is going to be a big step in that direction. So:

     I know, that’s a lot of info, but there’s just a little bit more (though it’s quite important). This is the new issue of Susurrus! It’s a smallish issue, but it’s got more quality per word than any other free online fiction magazine.
     James Maddox reviews Escape Pod, a SF podcast, and Daniel Y. Harris reviews Mad Hatters’ Review, the other online fiction magazine about insanity. We’re practically related on principle.
     And, saving the best for last, we’ve got monkeys, eclipses, string beans, and a noticeable lack of Peter Gabriel, all in the poetry and fiction of Kendra Sims, Rena Sherwood, M.L. Edwards, and David Holub. I gotta say, it’s amazing that you get all of this for free. I am fine. How are you?
